Thok pioneers eBike frame kits with custom builds in mind

Windwave-carried electric bike brand Thok has taken to COREbike to launch a new frame kits option, allowing the consumer up to customise their build.

Two frame options now exist, based around either the Enduro-suited TK01 or all-mountain MIG, each carrying front and rear Öhlins suspension, a Shimano EP8 motor and system, as well as high quality kit such as the headset. The EP8 motor has been chosen for its 85 Nm of torque and light 2.6kg weight.

Seven colour options, a series of accessories and customisations can be further lined up with the customer in store prior to lining the order up with the distributor. Pricing weighs in at £5,299 for the MIG dream kit and £5,999 for the TK01 spec.

thokAs yet, frame kits for electric bikes are not commonplace, as they are for performance bicycles, and so Thok’s departure down this road opens up a channel for brands that are producing aftermarket electric bike specific goods to build some momentum.

The package supplied to the consumer includes an advice kit on compatibility with electric bikes in the hopes of guiding the consumer on things like chains, cranks and brakes that will all need to be rated to handle the additional forces put through the bike when a motor is specced.

As for the choice to go high-end on the Öhlins suspension, the customer has the option of a RXF 38 M2 29” Air fork, giving 180 mm travel for the TK01; RXF 36 M2 29” Air fork – 150 mm travel for the MIG and TTX2 shock absorber for the TK01 and TTX1 Air for the MIG.

Every Thok frame kit buyer will receive a ‘Dream Box’, which contains the THOKcare two-year warranty extension and various personalised THOK accessories ranging shock pumps and bottle cages, right through to multi-tools to aid assembly.

As an aside to the box and its contents, the ‘Dream Kit’ the customer can either choose to leave the frame raw, or go further down the custom route, even printing the flag of the rider’s nation with the broader decal.

The TK01 frame features the typical mega down tube, which integrates the 630Wh battery by placing it near the motor and guaranteeing a low centre of gravity. The top tube is elongated with the signature “viper head”, devised for the tapered 1.8 “BONE” head tube.

The lowered standover provides a stiffer frame, offering better handling of the bike and also offering a better adjustment of the saddle height.

The MIG frame features an elongated top tube, an open head tube angle with a 66° angle and a straight seat tube with a 74.7° angle.

Comfortable to ride and with high traction, the TK01 offers a very low centre of gravity, again thanks to the 630Wh battery placed under the down tube, protected by a cover.

Shops were also recently introduced by Windwave to a new app-based catalogue that will help retailers in outlining product features to customers in store.
