Riese & Müller launch second Responsibility Report

Riese & Müller have launched their second Responsibility Report, documenting, “the company’s goals and results for 2021 and progress towards becoming the most sustainable company in the E-Bike industry.”

With a focus on “transparency”, 2021 saw Riese & Müller focused on developing a transparent and sustainable supply chain, working with associations and organisations to promote new ways of doing business.

Dr Sandra Wolf, CEO of Riese & Müller comments; “We believe transparency is essential for profound and transformational sustainability. This requires courage to make clear commitments as well as individual engagement and a holistic approach. Against this backdrop, we have initiated and continued many important projects over the past year – at our Mühltal premises and also by driving forward new ideas both within and beyond the industry. Our Responsibility Report shows where we are and what we are committed to: a sustainable supply chain, an environmental and social transformation, and decisive, collective action that drives forward change”

More than 60 of Riese & Müllers’ suppliers have signed a Declaration of Principles on Human Rights and an individually tailored Code of Conduct.

The announcement also highlights that, “70% of the purchasing volume has been mapped using ‘sustainabill‘ – a cloud platform for transparent and sustainable procurement – so that, together with its suppliers, Riese & Müller can establish a comprehensive overview of the complex global supply and value chains.

Emphasising that, “voluntary commitment is not enough, Riese & Müller, as a signatory to the supply chain legislation initiative, also supports clear legal frameworks for compliance with human rights and environmental due diligence obligations.”

Looking to steer future developments, the business has, “further expanded its work in associations and non-profit organisations and launched important initiatives together with partners in business and industry.”

“Included here are the Cycling Industry Climate Commitment from the industry initiative Shift Cycling Culture, as well as the Bike Charter on sustainable business from the Bike Brainpool. With Dr Sandra Wolf as a board member of the German Federal Association of Sustainable Business (BNW), Riese & Müller is also contributing to the cross-sectoral environmental and social transformation of the economy.”

Bike industry sustainability reporting has come into increasingly sharp focus as businesses look to address head-on the environmental challenges of a local and global manufacturing and logistics chain, from sourcing of raw materials, to design and manufacturing for minimising of waste, and packaging materials for shipping in country and internationally.
